This kitchen offers a contemporary architectural approach to bringing more daylight in.
Light flows over and under the Wall Cabinets, which trace a continuous horizontal line around the room, connected by taller Wall Cabinets on either side of the glass, and playfully interrupted by the smooth metal of the range hood and stovepipe. The cabinet tops are finished in tasteful Crown Molding.
A Single Glass Door at one end adds visual interest and a sense of depth. In the Base Cabinets, open shelving with a Wicker Storage Basket breaks up the solid form and draws the eye in. On all the cabinets, the Satin Nickel Wavy Pulls punctuate the flow of the doors with fashionable yet lighthearted style.
The island offers intimate seating, the convenience of a small sink, and handy wine storage underneath. Note how the ochre of the island countertop is repeated around the cook-top, which breaks up the lighter, more elevated counter of the Base Cabinets.
In this kitchen, several design elements are interrupted by other design elements. The result is an intriguing balance. The color scheme adds to this balance. The rich warmth of the Maple Sable cabinetry complements the muted olive green earth tones of the walls, set off by the light counters and mid-level paneling and by the sunlight that flows in from many directions.
